Where to spend, where to save
Spend on the wrist. A glove with a long strap is the one upgrade that changes safety in month one. Spend on the mount. A rated joist mount or a real stand is not the place to improvise. Save on the bag — a 70 lb branded fiber-and-sand bag is enough for a year. Save on the timer — a phone. Save on headgear — don't buy it until you spar. Never save on wraps — they are the cheapest item and the one that protects the most.
The budget-kit honesty note
A light freestanding bag (the Everlast Core) is a cardio bag: an adult over about 150 lb hitting hard will knock it over.
